I got lots of old fishing hooks that I have removed some rust from and was wondering if there was something I can coat them with to protect them from rusting. I have read about WD-40 but then you have the smell and I didn't know if it would turn fish away. Instead I was thinking of coating them in a thin layer of plain candle wax. What do you use to coat hooks if any and do you think this is a good idea?

For some reason fish seem to like WD40 New hooks are cheap when compared to other tackle. Get new quality hooks. You will be better off for it.

Just make sure you use the same size +weighthook or the lure will perform differently

don't use candle wax! use bee's wax the scent will help draw them.
Respect the fish. Open that change purse and buy a new hook. After all if you spend the money buying hooks that you spend on just one meal at McDonald's, you'll have enough hooks for all season.
I don't mind using stainless steel hooks, but a regular hook will rust down and break apar if your line or rig breaks. You sharpen a dull hook taking of any and all protective finishes anyway if you're not using new hooks.
Hmmm....

Nothing about hooks that hasn't been said but today June 11 I learned they are putting 7 million salmon in SAN FRANCISCO's bay because of the water shortage and to keep the. Fishing industry alive makes me glad I'm a fisherman✌😊👍
