I will be spending a week on Hammocks Beach on Bear Island NC in September. I hear that the red drum fishing during that time is outstanding. However I was born and raised on the california coast and fished it my entire life, but this type of fishing is a different animal to me. Can anyone give me any tips on this? Anyone fished here? I'd love to get some stories and a little instruction. Thanks.
Fly Guy: I know you've seen this advice in posts before and is probably distasteful to you. The best, most economical for the long run is to hire a local guide for 1/2 day. Pump him/her for all your worth about local customs, bait, and fish habits. This will get you the most 'bang for your buck'! it will more than likely give you more success than fishing alonve for a month! Just Sayin...RJS
You going to be in the open ocean surf or inside a bay?
You going to be in the open ocean surf or inside a bay? I used to fish Carolina Beach, further south, open ocean and inlet.
Its a barrier island... the beach is facing the sea.
Its a barrier island... the beach is facing the sea. I believe that there are islands in front of it facing the open ocean.
