Crabbing in Puget Sound

I have enjoyed crabbing in Puget Sound, out of Seattle Washington for several years, and can't help but notice that I am catching fewer legal crabs and the season keeps getting shorter. I have been down to the boat ramp at Shilshoe and for the last few days it has been crowded with native american crabbing boats with all kinds of pots unloading their catch of lots of 7 and 8 inch dungeness crabs. Apparently their season open May 24th and I don't know how many pots they are allowed and how many crab they can harvest. I do know that I have to pay for my license and I am allowed to put in two pots, and can keep up to 5 males dungees over 6 1/4 inches. However, I can't put a pot in until July 1, after most of the crab are gone. What Gives?

That's easy. Who are the politicians going to listen to? A lot of individual fishermen or an organized industry with a lobby?

Your only function as far as the politicians are concerned is that you're a source of revenue.

That’s very true. Right now the native Americans are scooping king salmon (springers) out the little salmon river by the truck loads with hand nets. Hatchery and native fish both and they can fish 24/7 as long as the fish are here. I don’t go any more because us white folk are only allowed one fin clipped hatchery fish per day and we can only fish Friday and Saturday each week. We are only allowed to fish with barbless hooks on a fishing pole. We CAN use two poles here but that’s kinda hard trying to fish with a pole in each hand, drifting, for migrating salmon. Last year it was open to us for about 5 days total. I’m over it. Perch taste way better anyway and they can’t sell those so they don’t go after em.👌

NC same way on catching flounder and Stripers. Commercial take all they want, the residential 0, Zero, nothing. Wonder who's pocket gets greased.
