I know a family in my neighborhood. They have two young girls and the are great people and the dad takes his girls fishing a lot. I called him and said I would like to make them new fishing rods and was that ok. He said yes and I said keep it a secret and ask them what their favorite color was. I also asked him what size spinning reels he was going to use. Once I got the info I needed I made the rods and sewed the rod bags. My wife and I are going to give them the rods this Sunday a week before the season opens.

Wow Kerry, really nice rods and gesture. I’ve finally come to understand what my mom always said, “it is always nicer to give than receive”.

That was very generous of you Kerry. I'm sure they will love them. They came out beautiful, and monogrammed as well.
Thanks for the pictures, and sharing the story. You're a good man!

Great job Kerry. I never made any but i have passed a few on. When i worked for tbe highways dept we'd go to landfill often. Amazing how many good items people toss. I'd get all the rods n reels i could. Clean n lube them put new line on. The make a small assortment on hooks sinkers n a couple bobbers n hand em out. Most of the people i gave them to i never saw again. I just hope they kept taking the kids out. Super nice of you to custom build 👍👍

You do very nice work, Kerry, and that is very thoughtful of you. What kind of blank did you use?

CRB (custom rod builder) e glass freshwater 6' 6" 2pc 4-10lb. I chose glass since more durable than graphite and fishing from a boat with all those sharp corners that can easily damage the graphite blanks.

It makes me happy!
