Thanks, first time fishing for them. Lots of anglers casting from the bank, I was casting from my boat towards the bank.

Ruff you gotta come up to PDX in a month or so. Columbia River Gorge too. They are same here. They are right as Spring Chinook are winding down. May and June up here. Great crab bait or fertilizer in garden. Sturgeon Bait too

That's what draws the bigger Stripers into the rivers up here. As soon as the Shad run starts, Big Stripers will follow.

Now that sounds like fun Jeremy, but might be a little late. I have a plan right now to go with a Cousin Halibut fishing 2nd week of May. But I guess I can ask him about it, maybe for a later trip. What do you fish for them with?

I’ve never caught a Sturgeon, I’ve eaten some Smoked years ago and remember it was good. Still sounds like fun. Thanks for the info

How do you prepare them. We could catch them all day long here last year they were so thick. Great fighters.

Awesome!!! I live down in Livermore, about an hour and a half. Are those good eating? Were you using jigs for them, like crappie fishing? Was that over by Freeport Bridge? Just wondering :-)
I bet it was fun catching them!!!

American shad make great Halibut bait.

Be sure to eat the shad roe. Soak it in milk for an hour then wrap it in bacon held by a tooth pick. Pan fry with butter and olive oil and you’ll love it...

most fun ever - used to fish the American River for them May/June - whenever the run was on. Great fighters.

We released them though. I've never eaten one. But, you get tired catching them when the bite is on.

They are good eating. Put barrel weight on line then tie a barrel swivel on end. Make
2 foot leader with shad dart( I like pink/white).
