Anyone get on any tarpon in Or near fort Myers Florida? Going out this afternoon and curious to see if they’re out and about rn
Akiko: As far as the last I've heard, tarpon do not post a schedule when they are out and about. The last time I was over there in the Keys, there were tarpon everwhere. We fished hard for three days and did not get one nibble. The guide had every sort of bait that tarpon like and they were not eating! They had love on their minds and nothing else! Just Sayin...RJS
Haha. Not new at fishing but DO know that fisherman tend to respect one another and offer a lead when possible. Thanks for your insight tho. Appreciate the gesture! Tight lines.
Hi Akiko, I n my limited experience fishing for tarpon they really don’t make a consistent appearance until May in the Gulf, that’s when they start to come shallow. I have hooked on a fly (not landed) tarpon along the beach adjacent to Redfish Pass on Captiva.
The Homosassa area is notorious for large tarpon in May. A world record fly rod caught tarpon of 200+ lbs was caught there. On a single day while fishing as a rookie with a guide, I had three shots at fish but no hook ups. Very exciting.
