Technique and gear for MC shark fishing (Wrightsville Beach)

Any advice on shark fishing around or near Wrightsville Beach (or other beaches near) from shore or close to shore?
Location, gear, bait. Are there any special laws or restrictions. I am intrigued with sharks and only want to catch and release without harm.

Typically they cruise along the outside of the first sandbar. They're on the second as well but most people can't reach there. I've seen acktips swimming within 10 feet of the beach. Most sharks you'll see are protected so depending on where you are and who is checking, you may have to go IN THE WATER WITH THEM to release them. That is the case in Delaware. Other than that, put a fresh piece of bait in the water and they'll eat it. Also, if you grab them by the tail the teeth can reach you.

Man you hit a sweet spot with some of your comments. I was in Hilton head a few years back way away from people on the beach. I hooked a 4’ black tip. I was at the edge of the water concentrating on landing him. By the time I had him in the surf to my surprise there was 50 people surrounding me. In my face saying crap. In a panic I grabbed him by the tail to unhook him and YES they can reach you! Almost got me. Grabbed my knife cut it above hook and pushed him back with but if pool.

Thanks for the reply. I guess my strategy is catch a blue, cut it up and put just shy of second sandbar. Do I need steel leader or heavy mono

I would use a minimum of 90# coated wire. Crimp on an 8/0 Gamakatzu or comparable circle hook withe a chunk of fresh fish. They could cut 100 #mono like trimming you fingernail.

Check your laws first. Here are S.C. laws.

•Shark fishing (or fishing for any dangerous marine animal) from any pier, any beach, shore, or any coastal water is prohibited.
•Attracting sharks or other dangerous marine animals in any way within 1- mile of the beach or any coastal waters is prohibited.
•At the time of recognition, fishermen must release sharks and any dangerous marine animals.

Some if thise rules are funny, especially when you consider that if you're stand waist deep in the ocean, you've got a pretty good chance of being within 100 yards of a shark.

I see I put MC in the title versus NC for North Carolina. My fingers are not made for typing on a phone. I struggle understanding the laws about beach fishing, size limits, endangered, gear restrictions for sharks in NC. I will probably only harvest 1 shark in my life if ever. You get redirected to other sites and I think it is on purpose. Can someone direct me to a site that clearly states the laws?

I answered my last question. I downloaded this app and entered my questions about laws. With pictures. You may like it.
