I think a jitterbug is the first topwater i used. Chuck n crank ez to use. Still carry 2 in my tackle bag. One job site i worked on was close to the river. I'd go there after work. I use one rod for catfish. While waiting for a bite I'd cast a jbug as far as i could then let it float down the river till current push it close to bank. Then I'd bring it back up under the tree limbs. Had fairly decent luck that way. I had real good luck at night with them

You can fan cast it but my most productive method is: From the bank or from a dock cast 3-6 ft out from the bank (depending on how shallow the water is ),with a slow steady retrieve bing it back to you parallel to the bank. You should hear it gurgling kind of a plopplopplop sound. when it gets tackled , and it will, DON’T set it immediately wait a second then reel up on it. You can wait till you feel the fish. Often people set the hooks when they hear the splash and pull it away from the fish missing the strike. Sometimes the fish misses it and hits it again.

Hi all, a couple weeks ago I asked about Jitterbug lures which I never used. I got some helpful info. Fred posted a picture of his but they have a skirt. I just ordered two Jitterbugs from Amazon but none offered had skirts. How do you all feel? Is a skirt an advantage or doesn't matter? How do you get a skirt on a treble hook?
Does a Jitterbug work in mild waves?
Thanks, Ed

Mr Ed - there is a fairly new bait out by Livingston lures called a walking boss II. It is very similar to the old jitterbug, however, it is jointed. I was amazed at its productivity here on Missouri lakes. The manufacturer has recently came out with a jr in the same plug. I just ordered three separate colors in the jr size. Hopefully, it will perform as well as its predecessor.

Calm water is best they imitate a frog swimming when the water explodes and the bass hits, thats when the fun starts.

When those conditions arise I use a large blade buzz bait
