NotAloud: Well, the first answer is I don't know. However, there have been lures with a red head as far back as there have been lures as far as I know. It doesn't seem likely this would have been around all this time if red had not worked. Just Sayin...RJS

I put red on certain lures via a permanent magic marker. Bottom front of top water baits, white plastics I'm pitching and running red around the lip of some shallow cranks baits. Been doing it for years and it has proven to pay off.

You are too kind RJS. I’m just an “old” fisherman who has spent many years on the water. I do a few nice ones on occasion.

I've seen several posts about red lures. Has anyone tried pink? After seeing bill dance using a bubble gum color worm i tried it. Got a 16"LM 1st time i used pink. So i tried pink senkos-ochos- floating worms then pink crankbaits. 2" sq bills. They all work. At a tournament bites far n few. Pulled into a small cove 45mins left. Told my co angler i was breaking out pinkie. He kinda chuckled. 3 keepers in that 45mins. He wasn't chuckling now. The guys saw pink work in tough conditions but still wouldn't use pink. Egos LOL

That was Good work Griz. I use a pink mag trick worm during the spawn with no wgt and a 7/0 hook; swimming it on top. They eat it up with a vengeance. .

Gmorn RJ n Eyecrosser. I didn't target bass till a guy started working where i worked. We got to talking about fishing n he mentioned bass. I told him i was a lazy fisherman thats why i went for trout panfish n mostly cats. Went with him one day in his boat. I didn't have a clue but i already knew fishing from a boat was nice. I git a couple small ones then one day i git my 1st 18" SM. I got the fever. Got in his bass club and read magazines watched videos tv shows to gain knowledge. In time i realized we fished same places n everyone use same stuff every trip. They all had yrs of bass fishing on me but that way didn't make sense to me. Igit my own boat so i could try new spots. Started using different techniques different lures. I took their advice n put my own spin on it. The one that got me into bass didn't like being out fished but he would change. I've always taken pride in whatever i do so i was always trying to become a better ole basser 😀. I became proficient with a baitcaster. All the guys in the club had one but a few cast n it was on the deck. I was the oldest in the club but the rookie. I dropped the club but i won't drop fishing till i drop. Being a hardhead old guy has advantages LOL. Good luck with your medical issues RJ. You n Eyecrosser have a great day

I use pink stingsilvers and crippled herring on bluefish and Spanish mackerel all the time in the surf.
Back a ways, I was fishing on Ocracoke Island, NC. Guy next to me was catching blues on every cast. I had one or two but really slow. Being new to the area I just asked him what I was doing wrong. He asked if I had anything pink. Had some pink plastics so I tried them and caught a ton of fish. Went into town for lunch and picked up some pink spoons to use. Went back to the beach and kept catching. Guy came over and asked me why I was catching and he wasn't. What do you think I told him?

I have found red beads on a worm harness work great four trout almost all the time. I've also read that red disappears lower than 20' which is why green and blues seem to work better when trolling for salmon at the 30-60' level. In rivers red beads, spoons, and jigs can be effective for steelhead and salmon. But nothing and no one color is best all the time even under the same condition often fish just have their own preference for their own reason I guess sort of like people do

I had an old red & white bombers that was a fish catcher. I got a wild hair & painted it totally red. It will catch a fish but not like it did as a red & white lure. I've been threatening to put the white back on. Bubble gum color (pink) worms work great.

I have been told, bright colors on a dark day and dark colors on a bright day.
