If a guy wants to bring a beer along ok but why do you want to. When it's 99 degrees a beer is the worst thing
you can dehydrate your self with. Worst than a beer I never allow a banana on the boat, some of you may know why. More than 2 beers is a no no also. If in charge of the boat you should leave it alone.

Ben, I’ve never drank alcohol in a boat or while hunting. Not only is it against the law to have alcohol on your boat, it’s very dangerous. I worked with a friend who was a volunteer Harris County Marine sheriffs deputy. He used to bring pictures to work of boat accidents and some with the dead people on the boat. It was always alcohol involved. Sometimes the drunks on the boat were only hurt after they crashed into another boat and killed those people.

A toddy after a successful fishing trip is a must, both to brag and to quench the thirst. A good day of fishing is the best we can have.

The "bananas on the boat" thing:

When sailing from the "New World", european sailors started the "bananas are bad luck" idiocy, because they were too stupid to check the banana bunches for spiders before loading in the hull. Depending on the voyage length, the spiders inevitably crawled out and some being poisonous were responsible for some sailor deaths while underway. Often the spider was simply a tarantula, surely scary to find crawling around on a boat, but only a few species are capable of killing a human.....their venom is intended for lizards and birds, etc., their normal prey.

Unless you are planning on buying/bringing an entire "five foot, six foot, seven foot bunch !" (thanks, Mr. Belafonte), or you are simply "Mr. Oblivious", you needn't further this centuries-old B.S.
Simply an "old sailors tale"....much like its cousin, the "old wives tale".
Besides.... bananas are an excellent healthy snack, in addition to having a very environmentally-safe "packaging".
They're also an excellent source of potassium, a known leg-cramp preventative.

Mayhaps I could just go ahead and disturb a wider range of "naysayers" by making fresh banana daiquiris on my pontoon boat (yes, they make a 12v blender).... you can refer to me as "that dastardly Oregonian Capt. Morgan" !

Let’s see I am either wading in a river (I am 60+ years) as I need every bit of stability to do this safely and actually catch a trout. Alcohol doesn’t work here. Or I am in my Yak , carefully scoping out fish. I don’t need beer to cloud my vision. I save the booze for the end of the day after the rods are stored and the boat is in its berth

It depends on the situation. If I'm out on my boat or wading for trout one or two max. If I'm bank fishing for catfish, as long as there's a dd, I'll fill the cooler and drink as many as I want.

There's a little slot just for the pint of Maker's Mark or tequila, right next to the fire extinguisher and first-aid kit, for "a slug or two" for whoever is catching the first fish.

Adult beverages require adult behavior. Moderation is expected of adults, regardless of venue, be it boat, camp, home, party, whatever.
IF....in your adulthood, you haven't determined what and how much you can consume without becoming a hazard to yourself or others.... It's highly doubtful that you have been invited to fish with me, anyway....I pick my "buddies" carefully.
Judgemental ? .... probably more like scrupulous... but at 67, if not now, at just what age would you like it to be allowed ?

Y'all do what you like/want, but I WILL give my passengers untold grief if they bring some of the horrible brews some have mentioned here !...I certainly don't drink that "Rocky Mountain pi$$water" or "light" anything..... waste of water and hops, imo.

I would certainly abide by anyone's boat rules, when on YOUR boat, but it's an exercise in futility to try to convince me that beer and fishing should ever be considered as two "unrelated activities".
Sorry...guess I just eliminated many potential "fishin' buddies"....so be it.
To each his own, in their own fashion.....meet ya' at the ramp and we can discuss our "fun day at the lake", okay ?

Without a doubt that is a major red flag. A mentality that FUN and the consumption of alcohol go hand in hand is one I retired long ago. I'm happy to report that yes, I was so very wrong.

I don’t drink while I’m boating, powered or paddled. But if I’m having lunch at the “lake” I have a beer with the Brauts, then I have No problem going back out and fishing. Now, let’s not get Crazy, No one should drink anything that impairs their reaction times. We are out there to have a Great time outdoors or on the lake, and getting home safe and sound is the best practice. Stay safe Ya all!!

This quote is highly problematic in this instance sir, for you know nothing about me at all. Defining NoCal Steve as "self righteous" to his family, church, friends, neighbors, and coworkers, would lead to many opportunities to resolve your ignorance.

For me, if ya take a look at the original post I said something to the effect” I don’t knock those who do ,and am not judge mental ...
I’m not trying to campaign for any moral cause here. Nor am I trying to say anyone is right or wrong. Do your own thing. I’ll do my own thing.

This has been a good post and a lot of folks have given great input.

The important thing is to be responsible, be safe, and have a great time on the water.
