My best friend worked at truck over 40 years. Retired about 2 years ago. I went to high school and college in Oshkosh many years ago.

I think it was the fox river. I got into the longest most intense white bass run. Big uns almost every cast.
I’m used to a white bass run lasting about 10 days. This went on for 5 weeks.
It was a blast. I bet I gave half a ton of fish to Hmong people.

You have a good memory Ben. The Fox River is known for the white bass run. It's tradition in Oshkosh for fishing types. There's a walleye run also but it doesn't compare to the white bass activity. When It's really cranked up, you can catch them on a bare hook.

You are from Wisconsin? How about Spotted Cow.? Tried it while working in Oshkosh. I liked it a lot

Spotted Cow is a great beer, along with their Staghorn, Two Women and Cabin Fever, for sure. The New Glarus Brewery (brewers of Spotted Cow and the others) is relatively young (1993?). I was one of the assemblers who built and tested their bottle filler. Our company also built their brew house and their bottle labelers. I try to support all of our Customers 😉 in moderation, of course. After the boat (and guns) are put away.
Leinenkugels in Chippewa Falls has some great beers (Canoe Paddler, Oktoberfest and a new Toasted Bock) as well as Lakefront (Riverwest Stein) and MKE (Louie’s Demise) breweries in Milwaukee. Looks like you have to come back for some fishing and beer taste testing (after fishing, of course).

Mornin Greg,
My (late) buddy’s Italian Uncles would say “When the lilacs are blooming...the white bass are running”. They would catch a cooler full from shore.
The Fox and Wolf Rivers can get nuts!
My best day was a few walleyes, a few white bass and a large branch which was full of lost crank baits, spinners and jigs 😉

Sounds about right OJ. Warming up any there or still in the deep freeze? They say you can walk from one side of the river to the other by stepping from boat to boat. They are packed in that tight. Lined up shoulder to shoulder on the bridge in many places. The Wolf is really crazy when the walleyes run. The current on the Wolf makes fishing interesting. Guys use two or three anchors to hold the boat.

We may get to the low 20s today, but still have about 2’ on the ground.
When the ice breaks up upstream it REALLY gets interesting as those who are not paying attention can be in deep 💩 as the ice pushes down in the anchor rope and will swamp the boat with 34* water at a minimum. Many get flipped and have to get rescued. Not a game for the timid.

One day I was fishing on an area lake and saw an empty 16 oz. beer can floating in the water. I motored over and picked it up. Then I saw another and another and so on. After the 11th one, I found their owner drunk as a skunk and sleeping in his boat with the last beer in his hand. I fish from my boat and have a beer at home if I want one.

Back in the day I would have thrown every one of them at him. Today, I would take a picture of his boat registration #s and call the DNR

I guess I am the bad guy. I now pack one beer in my day cooler. I pack two if I have another adult on board as a courtesy . A cold beer is awesome with lunch on a hot summer day. I do not drink beer if I have kids aboard. I never drank at all on board when I was a charter captain, though I was offered drinks all the time. I have also cut trips short when clients drank to much. I do not care if others drink on my boat as none of my friends drink more than a beer or two. "or two" means two, not some. Note: In Washington it is illegal to' operate ' a vessel while under the influence. Under the influence is the same .08 as a car. That is more than one beer.

You aren’t the bad guy at all. Responsible definitely.
I do love me a cold beer. Probably love it too much. That’s why I made decision to leave at home.
This has turned out to be a good post
