Fishing for King Salmon I used this scent when we were not catching.Bang the down riggers went a double. So this scent that i used is nothing more than blue food coloring. I do not know the science but it works! In my life of a hunter gather type, scents have worked well for alot of things. The Ricky Sitka

I’m assuming you are talking about the spray-on scents or dip scents for soft plastic baits.I have tried several. To my knowledge, the ones I have tried just come off the lure and float to the surface. They are oil based. Now if you can find a true water soluble scent that disperses in the water around your bait, then that’s the ticket. I believe fish respond to a salt taste over a garlic smell. The salt performs 2 functions in a soft bait. It is used to increase the weight of the plastic for better performance and provides the bait with a bloody ( salty ) taste. So try to buy soft baits that contain a certain amount of salt over baits that smell like garlic, coffee, bubble gum, etc. if I was to buy a bait based on scent,it would be a strong Shad scent or a crawfish scent. Good luck

Check your state’s refs on wd40, I believe it is illegal in some states when used as an attractant. Guess you better have the rusty hook story ready.
