Does fishing line degrade if left in cold temperatures I.e. above freezing, below freezing. Length of time in adverse conditions. Thank you for your insight

Welcome to the Stage Bjm, I've had bulk spools in my cellar for years, line is still fine. Heat and UV light are the enemies of mono and floro. Below freezing for a long time or many cycles might not help. Where do you keep it?

I keep fishing equipment in my basement. I am thinking of a satellite storage out in my shed. To alleviate me from excessive stair climbing. Thank you for your input, it is very much appreciated

Heat is #1 killer of Mono and Fluro. I keep mine in freezer. Have for years and never have had a problem. If you want to try a little trick about MONO and heat try this. Have some one hold your rod and reel with a few feet of line hanging out. Grab end of line and pull it tight to load up rod just a bit. Now with other hand wrap a hanky around line and squeeze tight. Now take hanky and rub it up and down the light quickly. Friction between hanky and line will snap even the strongest line in a matter of seconds. This will let you know just what heat will do to fishing line.

UV takes a long time to break down any fishing line. It will happen, but it won't be quick, and it won't be just one season. You are more likely to use up your spool of line just retying nicked up and abraided line.

Uv is not the biggest danger for Mono. If it was there would not be as much line floating around in our lakes, rivers, etc. Heat is the killer. Like leaving it in your car in summer for long periods of time.
