I've never fished that lake but Smallmouth follow seasonal patterns in most lakes. Deeper main lake and secondary points and bluffs summer and winter, deep water. shallower creeks and flats spring and fall. This time of year I like to fish the main and secondary points deep 10 to 30 ft holding the boat out in 40 to 50 ft of water. Try to find the bait fish in your lake and fish areas close in water about the same depth as the bait fish. March and April will find them in shallower water that gets a lot of sun. I like clean gentle sloping banks banks with pea gravel or hard bottoms, crank baits are good this time of year. Summer months I fish at night a lot and catch fish close to the same deep points I find winter smallies with a jig or spinner bait, fall i'll go top water or swim baits a black buzz bait will catch fish most anywhere in the country. when that slows start swimming a swimsuit around and thru baitfish schools. Hope this helps you some smallies are a ton of fun to catch and my fish of preference

Ivey,
What color, style or brand of swim suit would you recommend? 😂. Gotta love spellcheck 🤦🏼♂️
Nice fish, did that one make 7#?

I like the Keitech Swimbaits in the Crystal shad, Pro blue red pearl or Ayu colors. I'll keep the 3 up to 6 inch length in the boat. A lot of the time here on Tim's Ford lake the Smallmouth will follow shad schools and kinda set up on them like structure, so they may be way out away from the bank in open water hanging in 10 to 15 ft of water over 40 to 50 foot of water. This is when I use the swimsuit the most. I'll look for the bait fish on sonar then cast past the bait balls, let the bait fall to depth and slowly swim the bait back thru. they'll just load up when they take the bait.
That was the biggest Smallmouth I've ever caught weighed in at 7 pounds 3 ounces. Caught it during a tournament and it plus one other fish my partner caught over 5 pounds won the tourney and big fish pot. Came from Pickwick lake in North Alabama. that fish ran under the boat and jumped way out behind us, it was a wild fight.
