my fishing partner has a bad back and always ends up in pain when riding in the boat in choppy water. Thinking of getting some sort of shock absorbing boat seat pedestal. Has any or you tried them if so what kind and did it do any good in making the ride smoother?

Sounds like a great idea, though I’ve never heard of them before.

You know what's causing his back pain? The Vertiflex worked for me. PM me if you want, or we can talk about it right here if you're interested. It's a pretty good fix for stenosis.

There’s a shock absorbing unit called “smooth moves”. I’ve not experienced it but have read good reviews.

Smooth moves are about $600
Shockwave pedestals are $550+
Wave riders are under $100 from what I have seen.
I hope you find something that works for you and your buddy.

Thanks and I am glad it is working for you I will pass the information on although the problem is a degeneration of the disks resulting is small cracks in the disks. so when the boat is pounding with the waves or chop the impact causes pain. I end up going real slow which helps a lot but I was thinking of installing one of those shock absorbing pedestals which are pretty $$$$ but I am willing to give it a try but I thought I'd see if anyone had actually had any experience with them first I hate to waste money on a gimmick that others have found doesn't work. But thanks for letting me know about Vertiflex

The main fishing resort on Lake Athabasca in Canada's NWT tried out the
Smooth Moves pedestal seat and liked them so much they out them on all
their boats. It has some of the roughest water I've experienced in fresh water
lakes.

Spirit, I looked that up and damn. I wish that VA surgeon had done that to me. Mine was a spinal fusion and it can’t be reversed. Lucky me.

A disclaimer. The Vertiflex is effective in relieving the symptoms of lumbar stenosis, which used to be called sciatica, lumbago, probably other things. In my case, before the Vertiflex, my pain was relieved almost 100 percent by just sitting down. The Vertiflex is placed into the vertebrae to hold them in the same position when you get up and walk around as when sitting. Don't know if it would be effective for degenerated disks. Sure wouldn't hurt to look into it.

Although I never broke any of my lumbar bones, I did break my neck once. I abused myself kinda hard when I was younger, riding motocross and a lot of dirt and sand. My ol back has been put through it over the years, and over the past couple of years I've suffered some terribly severe pain. The Vertiflex has for all intents and purposes alleviated all that. I don't make a dime off of it, just here to let you all know what it did for me.

Hey Spirit.

Your Welcome here in Oregon. I have a Dirt Bike Camp. I prefer Quads and Jeeps now but still have a few 2 Wheelers there too. Just inject the meds and go for a ride.

I went for one heck of an awesome Scenic Fishing Excursion with Egghead in Wyoming on Flaming Gorge in September 2020.

His Boat has the seat suspension system for the Captain and One Passenger up front near the windshield.

We hit 1 or 2 foot maybe bigger wakes and the Seat Suspension sure made for a smooth ride over large boat wakes. I see similar type seat suspension in Tractor Trailer Big rigs too. I would shop around and purchase them if you can afford them.

Contact Egghead if possible he may know the manufacturer or part number for what your after.

Hook em and EAT em. Keep on Fishing.

Have him sit on a small inter tube. About the size of a wheel that is on a wheelbarrow.

Welcome to the fishing stage Hedy. Other than that ortholumbar boat seat, tell us a little about your bad self? And we would love a photo of that thing.
