What are y’all’s favorite casting reels and rods? I am currently throwing a Shimano Curado DC 7.4:1 on a Dobyns 713MH. I’m in need of a few more setups. Any help is appreciated.

I really like my shimano Aldebaran on a GLX 852 JWR.
It is super sensitive and I use it for finesse applications

Shimano SLX DC on a Major Craft Speed Style Series SSC 64 UL. The rod weighs less than 2 oz. I use it for trout.

TuckerB-2000: What is your specific problem? Backlashing, short distance? A couple have responced with what they are using, and they are experts. Just Sayin...RJS

Pepenando: Do you ever come to the States? Houston has some awsome tackle shops that would amaze you and could probably fit you with a suitable rod. Then buy a fiberglass rod case for it and you would be fixed up.

I have fished in several foreign countries and carried my rods in a hard fiberglass rod case. The airline stows it in the belly along with the suitcases and nothing is ever broken. Just Sayin...RJS

Yes, there used to be two Cut Rate shops. One on the Gulf Freeway, which has been expanded and is much larger, and there was one on the 1-10 or Katy Freeway close to where I live, but this last one has been closed and all moved to the Gulf Freeway location. They wil leven build you a custom rod from blanks they have in the store, or used to, I havent been there for at least a year due to the virus. Just Sayin...RJS

Lews reels and ABU reels are the way to go. Both company’s better reels are made in Korea, NOT China. I buy American made rods, not Chinese made rods. A matter of pride for me. I refuse to buy Chinese. I know lots of guys can’t afford American made rods, so if you gotta by China, I would look at Powell rods.

All Kistler rods are handmade at Magnolia, TX.the High ranking of Shimano reels are made in Japan and the less expensive are made in Malasia.
For bottom fishing and jigs, y use Avet reels made in USA in California and for offshore Penn International.
is sad that many big companies in the fishing business, reels, rods, lures, hooks, fishing line and outboard are moving to China
