Small bluegill are kind of a nuicence. So
Some lakes just don’t have a good population of big hills or they are few and far between
If you are lucky enough to have a place that has big ones . Try fishing deeper at the edges of weed lines. Sometimes you have to get under the small ones. Might try no float with a 1 /32 oz jig head and your choice of bait. Waxworms. Crickets. Red worms.
Lest it sink and slow drag it. If small ones get the bait before it gets down, a 3/16 oz dropshot with a size 8 hook 12 inches or so up will do the job getting down faster
By deep we may only be talking 6-8 ft
This is pre spawn I’m talking here

During actual spawn find thick Lilly pads and drop a float into pockets in the pads. Or clear your own pockets with a rake and come back later. Like half an hour. Hang your bait about a foot below the float. Believe it or not an old fashioned cane pole is very effective and efficient doing tjis.

Bigger lures has been suggested and sometimes this works too.
I’d try both.

In the summer , think deep. I catch studs 25 ft down. Wood and rock cover are what you are looking for.

Hope this helps. If they are there , they can be caught.

Go to places like Chocolatta Bay, Bay Grass, Little or Big Battie. Fish in the afternoons on the south wind 3 days before and 3 days after a full moon. You can drift over the grass beds for bass as well using Sallies with pork frogs. Start when it gets warm. March-April...May. Fish duck blinds with crickets for blue gills . Fish Buggy whips with worms for shellcrackers. Creeks, troll and fish structure until you find a bed.

A Buggy Whip is a grass that is round and about 4-5' tall. Worms are the things that are found in the ground or local bait shops. Shell Crackers bite from the bottom up. The cork will go flat before going under.
