Can anyone recommend a good headlamp. I bought a rechargeable one off Amazon and it stopped working after 2 charges.

I've got a Coleman safety-pinned onto my "Boony Hat", right now... Best bang for the buck, I think... I've got a couple of "throw-aways" around somewhere also... Hell; the Coleman could get replaced several times, for the price of some of them out there.
You DO know, that they $ell rechargable batteries/ charger included at an office supply store, or at an electronics store... ¿Don't you?

I usually get mine from a home depot type store. Replaceable AAA batteries.

Have several, both rechargable and battery-replace type, even a few of the DollarTree ones(for a buck, each pack/bag and each vehicle gets one), but BY FAR, a NEBO REBEL rechargable is the favorite. Have had it for about 3 years, gets used and recharged at least 3-5 times a week, this time of year. Has never been anything but stellar. At 600 lumens for the high beam and 300(?) for the low setting, not much it doesn't reveal. Was kinda spendy @ $29.95, from Sportsman's Warehouse, on sale-was $34.95, but after having many that "ate" batteries with one or two uses, this is my best yet. Run-time is also pretty good, as I have run it constantly (on low setting) for easily 3-4 hours, & 2-3 days, if used intermittently....can only remember once when it "died" whilst using.
My 2¢.

The LED ones are easy on batteries

Mine have the LED's lights. They work good, put them in my travel trailer also and real help on battery life for dry camping.

I used to have one of those & liked it, although; I guess it wasn't quite as "rugged" as the Coleman. (Although I AM planning on replacing it.) {I think that the one I had with a red option, was NOT the Energizer; but, some junk from China.}
I can't direct anyone to the "hard data", BUT, I believe that it was proven many years ago, that using red light for the "up-close stuff" allows your eyes to RE-adjust to the darkness of the night alot quicker than transitioning from using white light and trying to "see in the dark".

That is true. The red light doesn't effect your night vision. The rod cells in the retina are used fir low light and motion. White light breaks down some of the chemical involved where red light does not. It takes about 20 minutes for your eyes to regenerate the substance that is sensitive to low light . If you watch the old war movies the night jumps always had red lights in the planes.

Would encourage you to check out Black Diamond head lamps. Brightest headlamp I’ve found. Multiple setting options and strongly built.

This is the one I use. We use it a lot and have for almost two years. You can focus the beam, which has proven very useful.
