What’s up fishing peeps. My name is Rusty I’m from the DFW area in Texas and looking to pick up some pointers for fishing Joe Pool lake. I’ve been fishing on and off since I was a little kid and now looking to share that experience with my kiddos. I’ve had trouble finding the fish out there. I think I’m caught up checking out the community spots that are over fished. I’ve seen pictures of 6-10 lb bass pulled out of the lake but I haven’t caught anything more than 2 lbs (and that might be rounding up.) I’ve got a deck boat with a trolling. Motor and I can get to just about any spot on the lake. I’ve got a fish finder with the down scan and side scan. But despite all my tech I can’t find the fish. If anyone is pulling out decent fish from Joe Pool let me know where you’re finding them.

Welcome to the Stage Rusty, I don't know what your water temperature is down there, but most of the country is cold. Cold water usually means deep and slow. Find dropoffs, creekbeds, or other deep structure, and if you find fish, work your offering VERY slowly. Good luck, and keep learning your lake. Tight Lines!
Welcome, Rusty: Is it possible these large bass have heard your reels creeking and moaning? Ha! They are there and this time of year are probably quite deep. As some of the othr posts had said, they will be quite slow biting this time of year. In a month or two when things begin to warm up, they will move to much more shallow water to spawn. You should be able to spot some of these larger females on thier nests. Just Sayin....RJS
There is a great video on Oliver Ngy's YouTube channel that demonstrates a slow presentation in Winter. He's fishing a swimbait and sets his rod down to make some adjustments on his live scope. Then he picks up his rod and boats the 9 lber that ate his swimbait! Follow Fred's advise and slow down this time of year to catch bigger bass.
Also, use your electronics to locate fish. If you are fishing where the fish aren't......
Cruise around until those electronics show you where they are. Notice the depth and fish a foot or two above them, very slowly. They still have to eat, but their metabolism slows down as the temperature drops. They will hang out where the amount of dissolved oxygen and temperature suits them. If you find one, there may be a bunch in the same area and depth in the water column. Good luck!

RR, here’s a copy of the TPWL fishing report from last week. They should have another update on the 20th.
