Greetings Fellow Fisher Persons!!!
I live in SC and fish a lake of decent size. The temp is about 46 degrees and the fish are deep 30-55 ft.
I would like some suggestions for how to fish this lake for Bass, Crappie in this time of the year... I’ve tried crank bait, hard baits, plastic worms of various Colors, Shad plastics in Ghost white, watermelon Chartreuse, etc. Anybody want to share their secrets... I could use some suggestions... and I do have a pontoon!!!
Many thanks!!!

Try vertical jigging with flutter spoons of jigging spoons.

Hey J, If jigging with spoons doesn't work try a weighted Salt Tube, or a dropshot rig.

Is your water clear or stained? At 46 degrees my two best Winter tips will apply though. #1 Find the fish #2 Slow your fishing way down then, slow down even more. Well, I guess a number 3 is important, many bites will feel like your rod is getting heavy. Don't expect the same bite you get in warm water.

Great advice, I get too anxious when fishing and tend to fish too fast. I’ll try to remember these fish are close to being frozen at these temps...thanks Steve!!!!

Your welcome. It's very hard for me to do. After my youngest son catches a couple of fish he makes me sit on my hands until I slow down. Lol

How does that lake compare to Lake Bowen?

Lake Blalock is comparable to Lake Bowen but without the jet ski and everybody pulling something. It’s very restrictive so it is a great experience. Pontoons are limited to 40hps, and small craft are limited to 30hps. It is listed to be over 700’ deep, but I can’t find that... 17-55 ‘ seems average. Three seasons the fishing is great with Large & Small mouth Bass, Crapie, Cats and bait fish... All in all, I prefer this lake over Bowen!!!

Thanks J, I pass over Bowen going to the inlaws house in Hendersonville but never heard of Lake Blalock. Good luck on your fishing. Gordon

Gordo, go to the youtube channel TacticalBassin. Last week Tim and Matt posted two new videos fishing Lake Chica(something) in Tennessee. Water temp was 46. They go over all kinds of different baits, presentations and areas winter bass prefer. I'd bet money you'll find it to be helpful.

I'm in Nc but the conditions are nearly the same. Best technique this time of year is to troll with carolina rigs deep using a 3/4 ounce weight wit 4 ft leader. Troll as slow as possible (1/2 MPH) or slower using live shiners that should be available at bait stores. Slow is the secret. With this rig you should be able to get the bait down to about 20 feet or more.
