Hey fellas, I've been reading alot of replies and sense I'll fit in well. This is my first topic and I'm wondering if any one gets sidetracked mushroom hunting while they are fishing? I like to add them to the skillet when frying the catch of the day!
I have collected a lot of Mushrooms chantrelles in Oregon after salmon fishing or during Deer hunting. Just 4 wheelin I see them.
I don’t but my brother hunts mushrooms a lot

I don’t really mix the two activities, but the two sure go well together on a dinner plate.

So Randy is that the Morel of the story?
I used to do that back in Indiana. that's a nice mess of shrooms there randy. I hear they grow here in California, but in over 40 years, I've never seen one.

We find a lot of mushrooms in the Spring, it's a small window, though, a couple of three weeks, when it wet and the temp hit 75*.

Good one Jeremy. That’s a gang of morels, I’ve never found that many on an outing.
My granddad swore he could smell em and I believed him. He always found way more than anyone else. I could smell em once they were picked and right under my nose, but he would be on the scent like a hound.

After that hunt/picking, I had as many ticks to “pick” as I had mushrooms!

The only time I hunt mushrooms is when the morals mushrooms bloom. Those are the best.
I've seen morals go for as much as $500.00 a pound. That's coming from the heart of the growth of morals. In Missouri.
When morals are in season there is no 2nd to distract you.

I always take my dog, ROSEY, with me when I hunt them. She has actually found a few on her own, and even “picked” them and brought them to me.
She’s half black Lab, so it’s prolly in-bred.
Disclaimer: She has also stepped on and squashed more than she’s found while I was trying to point them out to her. Anyway, she does love to hunt mushrooms; almost as much as she loves to go fishin’ !!
I tried to do that with my dog when i's a kid. She'd just wag her tail and give me that look. I think she invented that phrase "wutchu talkin bout Willis?"
