Length v. Girth

What's more important to you in a fish? The length or the weight? Fishing regs say the fish needs to be so long to keep. But many fisher men & women talk about the weight. I personally am proud of the length, if it's fat that's a bonus.

Yea if I’m keeping fish definitely length. That’s what you are looking for to legally keep one
If it’s fish I’m not keeping or looking for my PB it’s weight.

Here the Black sea bass are fatter in the winter but under keeping size. But when you catch one of size you got some meat.

Welcome to the Forum, mistred, are you sure you are talking about fish or something between your legs.

Depends on whether the species has a minimum length to be legal. Some species have slot limits, too.
Also depends on if I am fishing for a meal. Some fish are too big to keep, too...or should be left for breeding to protect the resource. It is nice to have an idea as to the length and weight for reference to the pics, as well.

I think it just depends on your goal. Obviously if you want legal fish it's usually length. If it's size it's usually weight. Bassmasters started the the 6lb and 10 lb club for smallies and LM's years ago. Locally, 30lb is a special size for Striper and 5lb is often mentioned for Rainbow trout.

I am a CPR (Catch, picture, release) guy, so would go along with Ben and always looking for a PB weight. My main goal is that 10 lb LMB !! 😊😍✔✔✔

There are billions of black sea bass just under the keeper size. I go out to 3 mile reef (just off Murrells Inlet) and get 20 of the damn things all just undersized. Love to eat them so I hope these grow up soon.
