Welcome to the Forum, Jkelly, You may have to wait a little longer, the water has to warm up a little. Usually just before, during, and just after a high tide. Just before a cold front moves in, not just after, worst time. The Spring and Fall are the best times, the middle of March to the middle of April, and Sept. - Oct. Live shrimp and ghost shrimp are good, maybe a few fish bites or cut bait will work. I'm not much or artificial but that may be just me.

Flyguy, Next year I have a month, mid January to mid February, booked near Corpus Christy/Port Aransas. Will anything be biting that time of year from the beach? I'm staying on the beach and was hoping to do some surf fishing.

I visited South Padre a couple times on day trips last year around that time but didn't have my fishing gear. I did see people fishing from shore but don't know if they were successful. I'm hoping that there will be something running that time of year.

You may also benefit from checking out some of the local specialized fishing clubs online. kayak, Wade fisher, pier, boat clubs that provide more detail about particular areas or technique.
I’ve found that basic inshore strategies apply most anywhere. Texas coast is no exception. If you are interested in learning more about how to target these inshore species very informative podcasts are out there.
Use your knowledge of inshore fish behavior coupled with a good preplanning deep dive on google maps to pick out spots for the current season, weather, tides etc.
