Welcome and I think you found the right place for information on your new quest. I’ve been fishing both ocean and small streams my whole life so I can understand where you’re at. Think super light weight and you’ll be able to enjoy yourself. Trout often jump and bass can do it all.
Keep asking questions and you’ll find the answers here. Good luck.👍

Welcome Luvtfly, i fished ocean for many years too and switched to freshwater about 8 years ago, the fish are smaller and the gear is lighter but it's so much fun, i mainly fish for bass and sometimes trout, I do still go out in saltwater certain times of the season I'll never give that up, but freshwater takes a little gettin used to with the lighter gear and all, but once you get the hang of it you'll love it trust me, you can get all kinds of answers on this site for almost any question so don't be afraid to ask and good luck

Welcome aboard Luv. That is about the same time frame I had. After about the same amount of time on the ocean as you, moved inland about 15 years ago. Started mainly bass fishing about 10 years ago. Last ocean trip was about 3 years ago for some bluefin. Don't think this old body can handle much over 50 lbs anymore. Love lake fishin now. Where did you move from?

Bet you got a lot of clams up there. Think you use to be able to drive right out on the beach. Or was that Carpenteria?

Welcome to the stage Luvtfly, My path went from mostly freshwater, to 100% saltwater for 18yrs or so, and now back to mostly freshwater. Still have all my gear so salt is always an option, when the opportunity arises.

Yeah the clams ran dry. I usually fished for the shart. Usually got about 8 to 10 a year. Then Cali regulations put a stop on how we fished.
