Hi there, I am new to the Reno/Tahoe area and would love some guidance on where to start looking for different fishing locations. Any recommended lakes/rivers would be extremely appreciated.

Welcome James. This time of year you could even go ice fishin.
Several places from shore to fish from in Lake Tahoe OR Donner Lake.
Come summer there's lots of stream/river fishin to be had all around you.
Take pics when you get out. Good luck and tight lines.

well you can head up Mt rose highway to galena state park for rainbows. . sparks marina for a variety of plants and the largest carp that will ignore you. there's the Truckee river washoe lake has cat fish. if you follow any of the creeks . I grew up on a ranch on Mt rose I will give you the spot. they have changed the names of the streets but I do believe its the end of faun lane. if not go one more street north . where galena creek comes out of the and rides along the foot of galena mountain make sure you walk up stream. and you will find a mile stretch of the highest density of trout in the state. cast into the pools facing upstream let it go float down ito the pool. Brookes . rainbow and occasional German brown. just worm hook and as spit shot 18 inches up the line. lake lahonton and Indian lakes are a days drive and the ruby mountains I elk if you want to see pristine marshes and fish for bass no motor boats or crowds. most of the good lake type fishing is in California . we used to fish walker lake but I heard its all jacked up with pollution ors something. if you want to fish for a dinosaur or the biggest lahontan cutthroats in the world. or something called a chub. pyramid lake on the paute reservation north of Reno Truckee river starts at lake Tahoe and ends at pyramid lake. you need to to pay the tribes fishing and access fees. they shore fish on ladders sometimes. I have always fished it in a 12 foot aluminium boat. Reno Tahoe is a outdoorsman paradise.

My brother went to Pyramid lake about a month and caught two of his PB one 7lbs and one I think 12 or 16lbs. Trolling forgot what they were using. The lake is known for big trout.
