Nearly all my gear now has suffix 832 braid. Unfortunately my old cannon downrigger clips slip. I am trying to determine the best clip replacement. Any suggestions? (mostly 30# test)

when one of our clips failed we just used a simple hack. a heavy rubber band. they break as soon as you get a strike. usually will last 45-60 minutes before the braid may cut it. catches were even on both rigs rubber band 2, regular clip 2 (all four were released)

I will be interested what others come up with. You can make a loop (just in the line don't tie a loop) and clip the clip onto the loop and that helps. I have tried all sorts of different release clips and haven't found one yet that I think has all the answers the "Black's Downrigger Release Clip" you can get from bass pro shop and most likely other places cheaper works pretty good since it is just pressure pulling on the wire release that releases it so so you don't have the problem of the thin braided line pulling out. and you can adjust the tension to make it harder or easier to release. But even with that at times I get frustrated with early releases I suspect often the result of ell grass or something getting caught up in my dogger of flasher. I am experimenting with just attaching the flasher to the ball and run the lure or squid off a clip on the line that way I don't have to deal with the flasher pulling it off the clip but of course then you have to make sure the flasher doesn't foul the stacked line but it does go a long way on solving early releases. I will be curious what other are doing. good question

Have used two or three loops to get the clips to work with braid - they still release just fine

I use the Scotty line clips (black/yellow plastic pinch-type). No problems.

I use a release from "Blacks" I have a Patten number that may help 3930330. They attach the down rigger to the ball and the release is a trip wire integrated in the clip. Very effective and simple. I am not very good about getting photos attached so send me a P.M and I'll see what I can do with the help of my friend, My wife about getting you a photo.
