Will Travel 😁😁

Good afternoon good people. I am looking to switch my target species from Striper to Trout and planning to head out tomorrow.

I would love any advice on a body if water, techniques, gear, etc. Looking to head out early. I live in Elk Grove but am willing to travel, up to 100 miles. I have all 2021 licensing and steelhead card.

Happy New Year and any info would be awesome!

Are you talking rainbows and such in a lake, or steelhead in the river? Natoma is good this time of year - very few people over there. Negro Bar is a great spot. Folsom also has trout in it. If you want to travel a little, Amador has their own stocking farms and it can be good this time of year also. Staying in the Natoma area, at the foot of the dam right off Hazel by the hatchery. Steelhead.

Thanks Spirit! Im going to resesrch those spots. I am looking for any trout, Steelhead, rainbows, brownies, etc. I'm not picky, just hungry hahaha!

Striper bite has been very bad past few months. I have driven from Sac to Rio Vista to Benicia and haven't had the best luck. I just got a new Phenix Trifecta Pro 8'6" and I want to break it in.

I've been by it but never fished it. It's huge. Can you fish that bad boy from the bank or do you need a boat? I've fished Amador and it's pretty bank friendly.

Hey Gills Deep, If you are looking for some winter time Trout fishing, head up to the Pitt River now below Pitt#4. The river is open all year for Trout and for added fun are Smallies in the system as well. I like to use a BARB LESS 3/8 oz panther Martin on spinning gear with no more than 6lb test. Access to the Pitt is through Burney via 299 east from I 5 north. If you decide to go, check the USGS water tables before you head up. If the Pitt is running over 450 CFS, to high to fish.

There are a few areas that can be fished from the bank but it’s better with a boat. I always used a kayak.

The Pitt is a little more than a 100 miles but you’re right, it’s a great trout fishery. I used to live in Shingletown and have fished it and the Hat creek.

Thanks so much for the tips. I ended up going to Lake Amador and my buddy and I both skunked. We moved around a bit too. Wasn't much being caught a anyhere on the shores, saw two overall.

Tried Garcia Bend Park on my lunch break Monday and caught a bunch of small Rainbow trout (I think) on a Kastmaster. Nothing to grill but no skunk.
