Hey y’all!
I am new to this forum and am happy to be here. I will be living and working next to Douglas Lake beginning in March until around November. I am looking for info from any seasoned bass fisherman regarding when and where on the lake I might have decent luck during the large mouth bass spawn. My son and I will be fishing from a boat and staying fairly near the damn on the north side of the lake.

Thanks in advance!
John

John - I live about 15 minutes from Douglas Lake but I'm not the seasoned bass fisherman you are looking for. I do have a suggestion. Check with the local marinas. My experience with them is they are very helpful in answering those questions. The guys in the fishing dept at BPS in Kodak have fished Douglas. They can also be a good resource.

Welcome JWE. Glad to have you here. It's early. Cyou'll get help before long. I am no help to you. What kind of fisherman are you & your son? Do you use a baitcaster or spinning gear?
What is your favorite type of lure? Do you use braid or mono. By answering those questions all the stage guys will know a lot more about you which will help answer your questions. Relax, you're with friends. These guys are good, sometimes.

We are weekend fishermen at best. Our schedules normally take us in different directions. We normally fish both bait caster and spin cast reels, both using monofilament line. We like spinner baits and plastic worms. I especially like to fish with Rattletraps.
We will be fishing from a 17-foot Bass Tracker with a 60 HP outboard.
I realize that it is way to be talking about bass spawning but I am just trying to plan ahead as my son will need to plan vacation time in order to travel to my (future) location.

Both large and smallmouth varieties roam Douglas Lake. These fish spawn in the shallow areas of the lake and are most active March through June. Spinnerbaits in white and Carolina-rigged lizards work well with these types of fish. Other popular lures are Rattle Traps, DD-22’s, and electric red worms.

You beat me to it Robert, bass will start to spawn based on water temperature. I believe it starts once the water gets above 55 degrees until it reaches 70. Beds can be spotted close to shore fairly easily. Carolina rigged lizards are very effective as well as drop shotting plastics and Ned rigs.
Welcome and good luck!

Thank you Robert and OJdidit! Those are some of the same lures we used in the Southern part of Illinois where I used to live and fish. Greatly appreciate the input!
