Welcome to the stage David, sorry no help from back east, but we've got a few members in Oregon that can. They'll be along. Tight Lines!

Welcome, fellow Oregonian.
Steelhead season is upon us !
Leaving in about an hour to go to the Rogue and try my luck bobber-doggin' some jigs or spinners for 'em.
Check out "Outdoor GPS" on NBCSportsNW (ch.426 if you have Charter/Spectrum) Thurs/Fri @7pm(if there's no Blazer game !) and Sat/Sun at 8am. Fishing reports, gear usage, river flows in your area... good host, good advice. Otherwise, local tackle shop is best, since Oregon rivers are each rather unique and a local can set you straight on access and current gear choice. Never hurts to buy a few items to "loosen up the jaw" of a tackle store owner....$$ well spent.
You should also get the ODFW Recreation Report website.... specific info on what's what for a specific body of water, usually fairly current. Good luck !

Welcome David, don’t know about Oregon steelheading but on Lake Ontario tributaries you can’t go wrong with egg sacs, or if fly fishing egg sac imitations.

My uncle lived on Fat ELK road there. There is salmon in tidewater ( probably still this year ) you can ask around at bait store. I would say go to the tavern and catch ( no pun ) someone there in a good mood for info....but probably noone there currently. There is a VFW there with outdoors people. There is crabbing off docks in Winchester Bay by Coast Guard. There is big HUGE Stripers in the Coquille. Crabbing off docks and boats in Bandon

Welcome Dave, Coquille is a pretty area. I’ve thought of moving that way myself just to get closer to the coast. I don’t get to go after steeles enough to give you any advise, but Jeremy gave you some great options.
