Fishing Rod Over/Under Question

Among the rods that I own are a pair that are 6' 6" each. Both are medium action, two piece rods.

Does it matter that for one of the rods, the top section (male) fits into the bottom section (female) while for the other rod, the bottom section (male) fits into the top (female)?

With all things being equal, is one rod stronger (or is some other way better) than the other?

.

It is probably so you don't mix them up.....

Different brands of rods... I wonder how the manufacturers knew that I would own both? LOL

I have one piece and two piece types. Two piece is just so I can take in a car or something.

I am thinking of getting with Egghead someday for a nice custom rod. You all know he is the Legendary Best Rod Builder in the West....Wyoming anyway. If you haven't seen his work you need to.

The bottom section of the rod is always thicker/heavier than the top section. So my thinking is that when the bottom section is female will make for a stronger rod where the sections connect. Make sense?

I have always been a fan of female below. Makes for a better hook set.

I hesitated before buying the "female top section rod" as it is the only one of the half dozen rods I own. As I have only used it once, I have no history to report. Hopefully it holds up and this is a non-issue.

I've always been partial to female on top. Cowgirl in reverse, kinda like a reclining dog. The view can be spectacular.

Fenwick started this metalless ferrell system. Male on bottom, female on top. You may notice that the action is better this way as apposed to the other way around. I’ve built many rods and this is the best way.

I's hoping a rod builder would jump in here. So if you're gonna build a 2 piece rod do you buy a two piece blank or do you buy a 1 piece and make your own 2 piece? Hope that makes sense.

Yes it does. When you buy blanks, they come two piece (or more if you get a pack rod blank).
Once I made a one piece rod and then later bought the same blank to make it two piece. I don’t recommend it but it can be done.
Note: building a rod had become more expensive than just buying one “off the rack”. I don’t build rods unless I can’t find the action, power, etc. that I want. My last few were mostly multi-piece rods.
