Live bream, the bigger the better!!!! Also believe or not, you can take trimmings off a full brisket, melt it down and take the liquid and mix with melted DIAL soap, make balls, and put a hook in each before the soap settles... use on trot lines, and Bush hooks in the rivers!!!!!
Thanks for the great info. We fish all the mentioned lakes except Magadore. π

Fishing for flatheads in Wi. On the Wolf, I have found that LIVE 8-12 inch suckers or bullheads with clipped fins work well. I like to find a deep hole and fish on the up current side about 1/2 - 3/4 up the slope with a 3 way swivel and about 4-5 foot leader. Works for me. The flatheads seem to work those holes and will find your bait.
I recently caught my personal best flathead. 19 lbs. and 36 inches long. Caught him on a live crawdad at night in Smith Mountain Lake. Now if I could just figure out how to put a picture on this site.

Hey there you really need to listen to these guys they are truly the β EXPERTS β. My advice is to hear their words, and learn.
I here what everyone is saying about different baits. but as a child growing up my grandfather used to take me fishing every time I visit him in VA during the summer. We always fished with nightcrawlers that he himself grew in his back yard. I still follow in the path that he had layed for me and I layed for my children and grand children. What I'm saying is what ever your preferance of bait, enjoy, be happy, use what works for you. And injoy the art of " FISHING". BE BLESS TO ALL MY BROTHERS.

Ok, I guess I thought he wanted to know the best bait for flathead catfish. Worms ainβt it
If u can't use live bait use my stink bait recipe
Take a large one of the big pickle jars fill it up with chuncks of carp or any fish you don't want to eat or guts of any fish. Seal it up put it away let it rot. Then put a treble hook on with weights of course. Put a sponge on the treble hook make sure its on there very tight. Put on rubber gloves open the jar hold your breath dip the treble hook with sponge in the juice soak it a bit then cast it O put that lid on quickly.
