I've noticed the older I get the more I enjoy sitting under the old shade tree. Its been to darn hot to sit in the boat out on the water. Anybody else feel this way?

Littleboat: Well, Hoss, the sun comes up, the sun goes does down. In Texas, we get about 20 to 21 hours a day of sunshine, (it seems like!) So, depending on how strong your desire is, go about 5:00 AM fish until 8 or so, come in, rest your self.

Then around 5 to 6:00 go back out and fish as long as you wish. If you fished 3 hours in each of those sessions that would give you at least 6 hours a day. Wouldn't that do until fall comes? Just Sayin...RJS

One option is to get a Bimini top for your boat, to provide some shade. That is, if you can find one to fit your boat. I also adapted a single rod holder to the back of one of my seats to use as a golf umbrella holder. It may look funny, but it works!

I like the umbrella holder idea. I’ll try that just as soon as I get a boat. Lol

I got a Bimini top with my Lund Tyhee in 1999 and put the top up on the rafters of the shed and it hasn't been down since. It must be brand new. I'm sure the mice have gotten it by now. I did use the one that I got with my Alumcraft in '84 a couple of times, that is why I got this one, but no.

They are not easy to fish around, but with a little ingenuity, it can be done. They protect you from the sun and can give you a couple extra fishing hours in a light rain. You’re definitely not alone in storing yours as they do get in the way, but as with most everything...a little comfort can be worth the inconvenience. To each their own.

I agree when it’s hot it’s hot. The tops will help but if the temp is up and humidity is to high it’s still to hot. Best thing is early morning or later in the evening.

Is it too hot, well with the heat index today it will be 114 F so yes it is too hot for me. Any metal you touch at temp will feel like you just got branded.

Welcome littleboat. Glad to have your old ideas on the forum. The temperature here has been up to 109 heat index. As you stated it's too hot to get out in a boat & fish hard. My wife & I wait til about 5:30 in the afternoon to put our boat in the water & we mostly troll. Casting & retrieving can really work up a sweat but trolling is really very little work & we catch some nice fish. We've caught both large & smallmouth bass, crappie, white bass & drum. We usually fish til just after dark & that gives us about 3 hours on the water. It's great.

Night fishing is our solution to the dog days of summer. Most species, especially walleye, frequent
shorelines in the dark, and topwater with black lives can be deadly for bass. Plus, you'll probably
have the lake to yourself!
