Rubber worms
Hey everybody. I could use advise regarding rubber worms. I’ve never used them, favoring other types of lures. I have a grandson turning 12 in August who has asked for rubber worms for his birthday. What brands do you favor, and why? We are located in southern Maine. Thanks for your help.
Well, I'm gonna throw this out there - I have never caught a fish on a rubber worm, other than one of them little bitty floating ones that Berkley makes for trout. What are you trying to catch - bass? You're gonna hear from bass fishers.

Robo Worms are a really good brand. Powerbait, Zoom and Berkley Gulp are also good ones too.

Welcome to the Forum, DM, I have caught a lot of fish on real worms, but never a rubber worm. I have caught trout on a San Juan Worm. But, If he wants rubber worms, get him rubber worms.
7" Yamamoto Senkos. Better than live bait, fish eat them! Black with blue flake is a great color.
Also Senkos are very soft and full of salts. The best way to fish them is wacky rigged with an o-ring, but a thin strip of electrical tape wrapped around the middle will work too. I recommend you use a small octopus hook. You'll get more hookups that can't throw the hook.
Berkeley power worm works for me 7” ribbon tail, in the red Shad color.
Yum dinger is my favorite. 5 inch long on a 3ott wide gap worm hook. Black with blue flake seems best coloe.
Re: Rubber worms
Favored colors here in Florida, in this order, are: Blackw/blue flake, Blue with flake, Green or red pumkinseed and in dirty water white. This is for both kinds of bass. Sizes vary according to what you want to catcha dn whats biting. I find a 3/0 or 4/0 worm hook with a 4,5 or 6 inch worm works great. Good luck. Sounds like you have a future tournament winner there.
First, thank you all for quickly responding. All good info. I believe he is targeting bass, probably sm and lm. When I get out on the same lake, I would target black crappie and yellow perch with my own appropriate hardware.

That is a goo to color most places as is the green pumpkin.
For crappie, self tied hair jigs, jig heads with small plastics. My wife caught about a dozen with a shallow diving fire tiger Rapala. For perch, spinners tipped with worm or segments of nightcrawler. I tend to think that my hair jigs and jig heads with plastics would work on perch.
Well there it is in a nut shell. As you can see everyone has a color and shape preference. All the above advice was spot on. We have great people here that are always willing to help. Just to name a few there are plastics for Texas rig, Carolina rig, Neg, Neko, drop shot, wacky, Tokyo and many more. You maybe better off with a gift to Bass pro or any tackle shop and have fun going with him to pick out what he likes. just a idea.
Good luck and Happy Birthday to your son.
I have luck with any worm that has a speckled brown look
