Sweet Caroline Loc: Las Vegas

My ex hubby was an avid fisherman and taught me lots but I have forgotten much of it. My new hubby and I are excited to get back into fishing. Since we live in Las Vegas the lakes are slim to nothing. We are willing to travel. Thought of Utah and Idaho. Need a little help finding the right places to go. We are retired and I have my rods and reels. I had Cabels Bass Pro Shop put new line on them. Went to Eagle Reservoir which was fun. We fish off shore. Can anyone help us with a couple of different places? Also we need to practice casting, lots of bird nests. Also need to learn how to fix.
Thanks

S C we have quite a few members in Vegas, Idaho and Utah. If you don't get much of a response by mentioning your new to fishing, i suggest a new post something like ( looking for fishing areas in Vegas, Idaho or Utah ).

You may reach more folks that way. But wait and see and good luck.

Might give keno02766 a pm. Go to user list and look up las vegas - hes in there and may help you out. He has pics of dozens of stripers he has caught right down there. Southern Utah has Lake Powell with lots of fish if you have a boat.

Trade in some of those conventional reels for spinning reels. The birds nests will go away.

Good luck,
Zeke

Welcome to Fishingstage it is a great group of people. I would suggest getting open face spinning rod and reel combos to help with cast ability. Bait Caster Rod and Reel Combos are great for their purposes and with practice can be mastered but take more practice. Unless you are targeting very large fish open face spinning reels will make it much easier to not get frustrated and feel like having a yard sale with all of your new gear :)

Good luck in finding some people in your area. If you click around in this website you can PM (private message ) people in your region and find what your after. I know for sure there is a cool dude in Vegas area that catches a huge number of Stripers.

Welcome SC. Since you’re willing to travel there is some great fishing around 5 hours from you up in the Mammoth Lakes area. Tons of great rivers and lakes. Like the others have said, switch to spinning rods for now. You can always go back to bait casters later. And you should think about learning to fly fish. Good luck and tight lines.

Welcome to the forum Caroline. Lots of good fishing up this way. What do you want to catch? Don't forget about Navajo Lake and Lake Havasue, as well as Lake Mead near you.

if you switch to spinning reels, you will need spinning rods. An Ugly Stik Elite medium will keep your rod cost down to $50 per rod.

Else spend $250 on a new Shimano baitcaster dc 150

Best of luck
