I fish both salt and fresh water here in northern California. Live in what is called the delta, near where the Sacramento River flows into the San Francisco Bay. Salmon, striped bass and halibut are abundant. Lots of lakes near by for black bass, crappie, trout and pan fish. Sometimes hard to choose where to go and what to fish for. Great bird hunting too.

Hey Wc. Welcome aboard. I live over in Windsor near Santa Rosa. Pm me if you would like to get together sometime and wet a line. We don't live too far apart and I fish some of the same waters.
Nice ling. Where did you catch that one?

Take those lings, dice into 1” cubes drop into boiling water with maple or brown sugar in it, cook for max 2 minutes and dip into clarified butter. Gives lobster a run for its money and I am a Lobsteraholic!

Ling was caught near the Farallon Islands about 28 miles NW of the SF Golden Gate Bridge on a party boat.

I sometimes do the same with bluegills or crappies. Just don’t cook nearly as long- almost in and out maybe 20-30 seconds depending in size. The old boy that fed me this the first time lived to be 101 and always said it was because he ate good fish was the reason he was so old - laugh a minute!

Hi westcoaster. Are you familiar with Wimpys marina over at Walnut Grove? Great shrimp and slaw dinner. We used to put in there with our kayaks and paddle all over the Delta. And you’re right about the birds.

You are in a GREAT area for fishing and hunting. I relocated from Northern CA last August and am now in Orange County near Dana Point. Trying my hand at Kayak fishing. Having a blast so far. I still duck hunt on the grasslands (5.5 hour drive....) during the duck season. Trying to learn the good fishing spots outside Dana Point Harbor.
