They are ok. I prefer crappie or catfish down south.

I've eaten my fair share of largemouth bass. To be clear, it's not the best tasting fish out there, but it's absolutely edible, and I generally enjoy it. With bass, I typically keep it simple and coat in Shore Lunch and pan fry in butter, or even just some season salt and butter. I'm sure there are some more adventurous recipes out there as well.

Most smelly fish can be smoked to take the smell out. Bass do have this real bad smell in their gut lining.

Don't.

They don't taste very good at all.

Bass are the most common sport fish targeted, fish catch and release like every worthwhile modern tournament so other people can have the fun you had and catch the fish again.

I second this. I threw back the biggest one I ever caught with the hope that some 8 year old kid will snag him one day. Plus their diets consist of anything they can eat so usually they don't ever taste great.

Unless you you're fishing to supplement your income by not having to pay for a few meals I generally wouldn't. This will vary immensely by location and i'm positive ill have a lot of people debate/argue with me on this but Unless you NEED to eat it Id just throw it back. I live in a moderately rural area in Pennsylvania. The waterways have gotten better but while they look clean they are actually dangerously damaged. Being a more rural area, all of the pesticides herbicides etc from the thousands of acres of farm lands eventually gets rained on and run off into the waterways. We're dealing with a massive problem of mutated and very sick fish. They're finding fish with both sex organs etc. A couple weeks ago i was fishing a stretch of river next to a sign that announced warning sewage dump off, do not swim. Personally, unless im fishing somewhere i know is well away from bullcrap, or i catch something stocked i wont eat it.

I fish in small lakes and ponds and strip pits in Kansas and catch and eat a lot of Lm bass. We use Cajun Fish Fry mix and deep fry. They are good, but not as good as crappie, bluegill, or channel cat.

BS!!...we eat a lot of small bass...3/4th lb or so..taste great..If you have a small pond or lake they need to be managed just like the other species..
not as good as crappie or bluegill (IMHO) but still pretty tasty

The above quote is quite accurate. Bass are indeed quite good to eat and tasty, but as said are not as good as what was quoted here.

The idea that they are smelly and are otherwise not good food fare.............is absolutely without merit.

I would add that I no longer care to eat Bass..........I would now throw them back to grow even bigger. But to suggest they are not good eating is B.S.

I prefer sunfish, crappies, perch or walleye. I have deep fried SMALL largemouth bass along with sunfish and crappies and many don't taste any difference. My late wife used bass instead of salmon in her "salmon loaf" and I thought those were okay. I have found the larger representative of each species to be less palatable than the smaller members. Too each their own. Good Fishing!
