Depends on what kind of fishing. Saltwater or freshwater? Spin or fly fishing? Big game or finesse? What kind of stuff does he follow on Instagram or Facebook?

Some of the big “dream destinations” are: **Belize for permit, bonefish and tarpon (big fly fishing destination)

**Kamchatka for trout & salmon

**Alaska for salmon

**Islamorada (FL Keys) for tarpon, bonefish and permit; or pelagic species further offshore

**Amazon River for various tropical species & uhh adventure

As far as the Cape Cod Canal, it’s definitely a fun experience but I personally would not consider that the trip of a lifetime. (Maybe because I live in the northeast and you’re only gonna catch one thing there).

Haha. He does not use instagram, fb or anything remotely connected to a computer so I cannot stalk him furtively to know what he would prefer, and I would very much like for it to be a surprise.

I was looking at Belize this morning; he has never fly fish before but he is eager to learn. Kamchatka seems like an incredible place, I have never heard of it before so I thank you very much for the tip.

We also live in the Northeast (even "norther" as you can tell by my sub-par English) and I do think he would be excited to try something a bit more exotic.

Thank you for taking the time to reply, it is very nice of you.

My pleasure! It definitely makes it harder if you can’t stalk him, lol.

Important: if he’s not already a fly fisherman I wouldn’t book any of the “trip of a lifetime destinations” specifically geared toward fly fishing! They are all going to be pretty technical and challenging—none of these (except maybe the FL Keys) would be a good place to learn for the first time. It could be very frustrating for him.

If he’s into bigger sport fish, and/or kayaking, by the way, I forgot to mention Los Buzos in Panama.

Hawaii the big Island the the fishing is great and the most fisherman friendly place I've ever been. Because of the strong native fishing culture there are some great laws as to where you can fish pretty much any where any time. The mahi are massive also if you enjoy looking at fish as well the snorkeling is insanely beautiful.

Australia. North Queensland coast has some great deep sea fishing, plenty of fresh and salt water estuaries aswell. Plus, while you’re there you can see the Great Barrier Reef and the world heritage listed Daintree rainforest, the oldest continually surviving rainforest in the world :)

We have had discussions on here about bucket lists and the fish that are on them. The trip of a lifetime for me would be to Mongolia to catch a taimen. Is he a trout fisherman? A taimen is a trout that gets up to 5 or 6 feet long. I believe Orvis has trips over there to catch them. I hate to fly, have nightmares about it, but a trip like that would induce me to endure it.

Let him choose place and who goes with him.
You may enjoy the trip depending your interests and the amenities available.
