Most unforgetable Fish Story

I'm almost 72 and have been fishing since 3yrs old. I have many fish stories I could tell since I grew up in NC freshwater and Saltwater fishing. Now live in Va and just saltwater fish, mostly light tackle. The one one experience that really sticks in my memory bank is this one. Fishing a lake in Suffolk va. one day for bass in a city rental boat over 30 yrs ago. Large storm came up and started back to dock, raining so hard had to pull boat out to get water out. Leaned boat against tree till rain stopped. I was so wet, decided to call it a day. On the way back in decided was already soaked so stopped at a point to fish a little more. Looked in tackle box and found a 9 in purple plastic worm. Don't know where it came from, never bought any that large. Put in on and made a cast, had a backlash on my baitcaster reel. I'm pulling out the birdsnest and at the end I stopped pulling out line but the line continued going out. Put reel in gear and set the hook as line peeled off reel as least 50 yds. I am fighting a very strong fish and get him about 30-40 feet from boat and a bass that I estimate 14 to 18 lbs did a tail walk. Got him almost where I could grab him (no net) and he jumped out of water again. Everything seemed in slow motion as his head shook from side to side, I could the lure in the side of his jaw. Then the worm popped out and fell back in boat as if he just spit it back to me. I sat there for at least 30 mins shaking uncontrollable. Will not ever forget that experience, one that keeps me looking for the next one. Tight lines guys
