I am the new man on this site. I fish Santee S.C. and the river areas. I am told by friends to get rid of the Berkley Vanish fishing line because it breaks easy. I use 6lb to 17lb from Bream to Bass including Stripers. Anybody know of this problem. Thanking you in advance. John T

When Vanish first came out (over twenty years ago) it had a problem with abrasion. I tried it, didn't like it, and quit using it for 15 years or so. Then I read that they had solved that problem and I tried it again. I believe they did solve it, and I use it all the time now. I use 8 or 10 pound for trout (cause I can't see the smaller stuff to tie a knot) and 20 pound for ocean fishing. If it broke on me I wouldn't use it.

Welcome John T. I've heard some tall tales about the fish in SC. I'm sure they're all true because there's no lier's here. Come on in the water's fine.

I just learned that when a line is tied and over laps itself, it will break down and break. What ya can do to eliminate this problem is to RETIE EACH KNOT ANEW. Yes, next time out just start over with a new knot. Also, know that each type line has certain "go to" knots for it that work better for that type line. Happy fishing!

Also new, hello to all.
I exclusively use 12 pound Flora carbon catching yellow tail from 12 to 22 inches off of Key Largo Florida Atlantic side. I used to be a pink Andy guy but no longer.

Easily solve this problem by switching to Power Pro braid. With this and any braid, use a Palomar Knot.

Use a Uniknot, just make certain that you do not overlap the loops. Great knot.

Welcome to this forum mr fish. I envy you & your catches of yellow fin which in turn leads to diving into a mouthwatering yellowfin steak. I've got to get my yellowfin in the freezer section. I have a nephew in Jacksonville but the boy forgot everything I taught him about fishing when he got married. Don't feel bashful here, we're all in this together.

Bottomcoon. I think you meant to say Yellow Tail not Yellow Fin (Tuna).
