A Question for Big A

Good Mornin' Everyone, I have a questions for Big A. Big A is an awfull nice fella and he doesn't have to answer my question, but I was just wondering. A fellow moved into here, Caledonia, whose nickname is Big D. He is big, 6' 7" & 307 lbs, mostly muscle, used to be an offensive guard for the Giants. The reason he moved into Caledonia is to have his 6th-grade son involved in the Caledonia Football program. Anyway and anyhow, Big A, why do they call you "Big," and I say this respectfully? Just wondering.

Fly there are no dumb questions. Many users have been asked about their names. I believe I saw yours some time back.

You did that, good memory, for your age. Mine too.

Being tagged"big" doesnt have to relate to physical size, though 6'6" and 307lbs means hes definitely NOT small. I mean, alot of behemoths who used to play sports or are construction workers have a nickname of "tiny" and to see them , you'd scratch your head and say "huh"?

Phil, I don't know if I should say good mornin' or good night to you, so, I'll just say "hi". Ya, it's hard to tell where nicknames come from, parents, siblings, classmates, teammates, coworkers, who knows. Some of them are strange. But, so is life sometimes.

Sometimes??

Nicknames are usually a form of endearment from my point of view anyway.

But I do not pick on anyone I do not care for, I laugh sometimes when I just use a couple initial or numbers. Had a few pm's saying I didn't think about it that way when I picked a user name, and we have laughed often since.

In my HS days, I was on the smallish side until my junior year; grew about three inches and added about twenty pounds ! Started weight training about that time, so new weight was added
on solid; by late-20s/early 30s, was starting to look like scaled-down version of 'Arnie' or 'the Rock', but I never took steroids ! I say scaled-down because they're 6'2" to 6'5" and I'm 5'6", but had a similar build; since my mid- to
late-50s, the weight has increased considerably and shifted downward ! Although my build no longer mirrors theirs, I now weigh nearly the same as 'the Rock', in spite of the height diffference !
When I first signed on to the forum, I was using my full name; when I decided to shorten it, I chose 'Big A' because I thought it appropriate due to my current
size ! Always was a little stocky, but solid; was usually chosen to play guard or tackle positions if joining in on a football game ! If you missed the last time I posted this, you will see where the name comes from; this is 'why' the
'Big A' ! - So ! How's THAT for excess baggage ?

Funny (true) story; my first time out here I was friends with a younger couple; stood up for him as his best man at their wedding !
He and his girl were about my height, maybe a little taller; he was maybe 150 lbs., she was around
125/130 lbs. - I was already about
180 lbs., so I was the dominant
figure in the photo ! Picture the above pose (with the shades, minus 65 lbs.) in a black tuxedo;
one of her friends to whom she showed the wedding photos asked her who I was in the picture; her friend made a comment that she thought I resembled a 'Mob' lieutenant in that photo ! She told me about it on my next visit and the three of us had a good laugh over it, although I have to admit that I did kind of look the part in that picture !

Thanks for the reply, Big A. You still have some"pipes" and the belly holds them up well. (LOL)

Okay, not to 'toot my own flute'
(which I can't do anyway), but the one thing I can still claim that I'm proud of are my 17" 'guns', which are, incidentally, just an inch shy
of Vin Diesel's (without steroids) ! Also, I have heard the nickname 'Popeye' once or twice due to my forearms being larger than some peoples' biceps ! Other than that, 'Father Time' has been a cruel
'Dad'; he steals your youth, your
looks, your teeth, and in many
cases, your hair ! Fortunately, that is the other thing that I managed to hang onto; that problem
doesn't run in my immediate family (only some in-laws) ! At least, I can claim the gut; it was well-earned ! Don't drink a lot of beer, but I'm a fair cook and have been known to pack away some groceries on occasion ! Drinking four (or more) 2-liter bottles of Pepsi per week doesn't help
much, either, but I'll be damned if I'll sacrifice one of the few little pleasures I can afford ! I am who and what I am; I see no valid reason to change at this late
date ! With one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel,
it's a little late to do so anyways !
