If you look at a striped bass from the side all of those stripes are in a line. When you look at a hybrid around the middle of the body there will be a wiggle in the stripe.
All I ever knew about them was that they got to be pretty large, I've never fished for them. Haven't been anywhere where I could. Then when I saw lots of references to Stripers from the ocean my curiosity has been piqued.

15 to 23 in South Carolina. 2 fish per person.
Regarding stripers; the hybrids are mostly (if not all) landlocked; we've even got 'em out here in the desert, Wulffy ! Lake Pleasant (just NNW of Phoenix) has some
big'uns, and some even bigger out of the Colorado River ! Never caught one myself, but saw a video a while back some guy posted; he was reeling in a
2-pounder when his rod was nearly yanked out of his hands !
As he recovered and started reeling again, his pole was bent nealy double; that 2-lb. striper had been inhaled by a 20-pounder ! Got it into the boat, then pulled the smaller one out of the big one's gullet ! A TWO-FER !

That I believe. Seen the same thing happen with Lake Trout and Kokanee.
This is a hybrid stripe caught below one of the dams on the Ohio river

I have had it happen with big walleye and a smaller walleye and big slimdogs and a walleye.
Hybrid or natural. Still good eating Mike. Just insert in the computer at the hard drive area and I will pull it out from here.
