This morning, in response to a crappy forecast, I headed for the grocery store. I grocinated and picked up enough to top off the larder. Standing in a long line with stuff, I realized the irritation that normally dominates these events was not there. The people were festive. They were smiling and joking and laughing and all in all, quite pleasant to be around. Never seen such a thing. It was worth the trip.
Then I went outside and was hit with flying snow and a sharp wind a temperatures colder than my ex-mother-in-law's kiss.
Now, we are having a blizzard. Eating pumpkin pie and drinking coffee. Reading about fishing and the random thoughts of fishermen. Pretty good, all in all.
Smoky relax a little if possible. Mother-in-laws kiss would have been quite a bit warmer seeing she mothered Satan's children.
The estimate here is 14 inches of snow here. Strong winds, so we will have high, hard drifts. Not to worry, we will send it along.
You folks above I-80 are in for a mess.
I-70 doesn't look much better. I-80 is closed from Utah to Nebraska.

Don't doubt a bit they might close 70 between Denver and KC at some points.
Smokey, you hit my dilemma on the nose. I only have an occasional random thought. My many projects will attest to that. Sometimes I pick a random project & finish it. Not often. Last time I saw my mother in law she was in a small ceramic vase. I could sure choke down a big ole slice of pumpkin pie but I'd have to wash it down with a cold glass of milk. Anyway, good luck in your blizzard. It's 64 degrees outside here.

While grocinating I hope you got your share of the free stuff.
It is my understanding that most grocery outlets these days are giving free gluteus to anybody that asks.

Wyoming is just soooo hospitable in the winter. There's a creek up in the northwest part of the state named Froze to death Crick. Cuz an old timey trapper did.

Up the crick no paddle?
Maybe he used the paddle as firewood. It gets cold here, but not like North Dakota or eastern Montana. There, it can freeze whiskey inside the barrel.
Wyoming PBS has a documentary on the blizzard of 49. It was actually a whole winter of blizzards and it took the US Army to clear up the mess. Wyoming cattle ended up in Oklahoma that year. They just walked over the fences. Nebraska suffered the same fate. It wasn't good in Colorado or Kansas. Out in the prairie there were drifts 50 feet high. Tall drifts, but not a tall tale.
I'm hoping we don't have a winter like that.
